A Special Meeting

An Encounter in Switzerland Leads to the ECK Teachings

One January, I had been working with a friend in Budapest, Hungary. After our work was completed, we decided to take a short vacation in Switzerland before heading home to Canada.

My friend pleaded with me to accompany her to a mountain resort to ski. I finally agreed to go, provided I could simply sit in the chalet and read. I was studying Buddhism at the time and was carrying a book I hadn't yet had a chance to read.

On the train from Lucerne to Engelberg, my friend struck up a conversation with a woman across the aisle. The woman was kind and helpful in answering my friend's many questions.

The woman smiled at me with her beautiful eyes, and I liked her instantly.

When we got off the train at Engelberg, the woman helped my friend get her skis, as I headed to the patio of the chalet and opened my book.

I had just begun to read, when a familiar voice asked, "Where have you come from?" It was the woman from the train.

"Budapest," I replied.

"Oh, did you attend the Buddhist convention there?" she asked.

I told her I hadn't.

Then she pointed at the book I was holding, written by a disciple of a well-known Buddhist teacher.

"He's not the real Master," she said. "Many feel the real Master is a man in the United States." Then she turned and left, disappearing into the crowd.

I wondered at her words. What did she mean by "real Master"? I closed the book and didn't open it again.

Several months later, back in Canada, I discovered the teachings of Eckankar, and I knew right away it was the spiritual path for me.

A year or so later, I saw pictures of the ECK Masters. A color portrait of a female ECK Master caught my eye. It was the woman from the train with the beautiful eyes!

I had met the ECK Master Kata Daki.

Happiness, amazement, and divine love washed over me as I realized this great ECK Master had come to help point me in the right direction on my spiritual path. Her words helped me recognize the teachings of ECK and led me to find my true inner guide, the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master.
