Past Lives, Dreams, and Soul Travel
Reincarnation and Past Lives
Reincarnation allows people, like you and me, to have a chance to develop the quality of divine love. This opportunity comes through the hardships and uncertainties of life, as well as in the joys and fulfillment of living. So we develop the quality of divine love.
This love makes us more godlike beings.
You Have Lived Before!
Genius and disability are two quick examples of the influence of past lives. People of religions other than Eckankar also know and accept the principle of reincarnation. It's a principle of divine love in action.
The personal stories and techniques offered at right » are from the book Past Lives, Dreams, and Soul Travel by Harold Klemp, the spiritual leader of Eckankar. Read a personal experience, watch the video "Ethiopia or Louisiana?" or try a technique for remembering past lives.
I Knew You When You Were Old
A young girl accompanied her father to a retirement home to visit a great aunt. Arriving at the relative's room, they met the great aunt's roommate for the first time. Her name was Sophie. She was well along in years and close enough to the other side of life to catch a glimpse of life in those exalted places. Yet when she spoke of it to others, people shook their heads in resignation.
"Poor old Sophie," they said. "She's lost her mind."
The young girl walked into the room, passed by her great aunt, and headed straight for old Sophie. The two studied each other for a long time. Breaking the silence, Sophie, in a low voice, said, "I know you. I knew you when you were an old lady."
The little girl's clear gaze searched the woman. The look on the child's face said it too held a memory. "I knew you when you were a young lady," said the girl.
Two old friends touching bases.
The great aunt approached from across the room and patted her grandniece on the arm. "Don't mind Sophie," she said. "Her mind likes to wander."
How easy it is to discredit the wisdom of both age and youth by someone in the dark about reincarnation.

A Tip for Learning about Your Past Lives
What Pulls You?
An attraction, say, to knights, medieval wars, and battles could be from a faint memory of past lives in some period of history. A Civil War buff, no doubt, saw military service during the tumultuous 1860s. That war left such a scar on the American nation that it still reveals itself as a deeply felt interest in Civil War history.
A child with a passion for model airplanes might have flown as an aviator in World War I or II, or even as a starship commander from Atlantis.
Someone with a feeling of ill will toward a certain church or country for no apparent reason may once have been a victim of religious or political fervor. An ailment without a known cause, such as a chronic neck pain, may be a tip-off that a person was once hanged or beheaded.
Whenever strong loves or hates appear with no seeming cause, it means we are drawing the past into the present by agreement.
